Novena

Novena is a song cycle and physical performance piece that engages the Catholic ritual of a nine-day period of surrender: a series of songs as prayers. The work confronts themes of hope, powerlessness, and desire as they relate to the body. Utilizing a Jungian approach as the framework for a creative process, there is an investigation of intuition, embodiment, and vocalization as the instruments of composition.
